Hola, gente. Welcome to my eco diary! Who exactly is the Eco-Salvi? It’s me!
Mi nombre es Claudia and I am a Salvadoran-American, scientist, birder, nature lover, ocean conservationist and sustainability advocate. My identity as an eco-Latine came to be in 2018 when I was asked to shared my experience as a guardian of el océano (ocean guardian) with middle school girls enrolled in a bilingual summer camp focused on ocean advocacy issues. As I shared my journey with them, I realized that my lived experiences aren’t unique but they have created pathways for me to be a champion for conservation and sustainability. In a world where the majority of environment and conservation advocates tend to be white, I thought it was vital to share my point of view and experience as a person of color in order to turn the tide and create equity within this field. My vision for this blog is to share past and present experiences in order to engage in respectful dialogue with all who visit this space.
